What kind of batteries can I recycle in AFIS bins?
AFIS manages, collects, and recycles all batteries up to 5 kg/battery. For larger batteries, you should contact Combatt or Rebattery.
I have a swollen battery, what should I do?
Swollen batteries are usually lithium batteries found in mobile phones, computers, power banks and rechargeable devices in general. Due to battery chemistry, they can explode and catch fire, so proper handling, transport and recycling is important.
In case the battery is swollen follow the steps below:
- Wrap the battery with tape
- Fill a box with sand (from the beach or the cat litter)
- Place it in a box (ideally metal, but paper is also sufficient)
- Close the box tightly and take the battery to a KOTSOVOLOS store
- Notify the KOTSOVOLOS staff to call us directly so that we can carry out the collection
In case the swollen battery has burst and fluids have come out, follow the steps below:
- Fill a box with sand (from the beach or the cat litter)
- Place it in a box (ideally metal, but paper is also sufficient)
- Close the box tightly and take the battery to a KOTSOVOLOS store
- Notify the KOTSOVOLOS staff to call us directly so that we can carry out the collection
Can I get an AFIS bin for my home?
AFIS does not send bins to private individuals, only to companies, associations, municipalities, bodies and organizations. To find the nearest AFIS battery recycling bin, search our map at https://afis.gr/en/where-to-find-afis-bins/.
Do I need to pay to get an AFIS bin?
No, AFIS is a non-profit organization and there is no financial transaction for the provision of services such as collecting batteries, sending a new bin, replacing a bin, etc.
My AFIS bin is full, what should I do?
You can contact us either by phone at 210 8030244, or by email at info@afis.gr so that we can place the request for battery collection. Alternatively, you can log in to your account and make the request yourself by clicking the “Login” button on the top right and filling in your space details.
The replacement is free and you are not subject to any charges.
The AFIS bin broke and I want to replace it, what should I do?

Shipments of new bins within Attica are made within 3 business days, while outside Attica within 25 business days.

Can I recycle light bulbs or appliances at AFIS?
